Amsterdam, June 17, 2008 — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) will showcase its leadership in the development and deployment of WiMAX Rev-e standard wireless-broadband networks at the WiMAX Forum Global Congress 2008 trade show and exhibition, to be held from June 16-18 in Amsterdam.

The event punctuates Alcatel-Lucent’s progress in the worldwide WiMAX market and deepening strength as a wireless-broadband innovator. With a series of recent contract announcements, the company has solidified its position as the leading WiMAX infrastructure vendor, having secured 25 commercial deployment agreements since January 2007 -- three of which having become live networks supporting commercial services. Recent wins also include new contracts with Craig Wireless in the U.S., Entel in Bolivia, Taiwan’s Tatung InfoComm, Libya Telecom and WiMAX Telecom in Croatia.

"WiMAX continues to gain momentum, and Alcatel-Lucent is now present in both high-growth markets and mature markets worldwide, including right here in the heart of Western Europe," said Karim El Naggar, VP and head of Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX activities. "WiMAX Rev-e offers operators an attractive and cost-effective way to deliver compelling wireless broadband services such as video, VoIP and mobile video gaming, while laying the groundwork for the introduction of ‘4G.’”

At the show, Alcatel-Lucent is launching the industry’s first comprehensive package of WiMAX infrastructure and services for launching a WiMAX business. Fully integrated and tested, the End-to-End IP Wireless-Broadband Solution for WiMAXhelps operators quickly and profitably roll out broadband Internet and voice services today, while positioning themselves for future high-speed growth and mobile interactive-multimedia services. The solution marries Alcatel-Lucent’s globally recognized expertise in broadband IP networking and WiMAX radio technology, for unmatched, sustainable quality of service and quality of experience for end-users. The solution benefits from Alcatel-Lucent’s deep expertise with rolling out and supporting IP and wireless networks.

“WiMAX is more than just base stations and over-the-air throughput metrics,” noted Peter Jarich, research director at Current Analysis. “Just as important for successful services and applications - though often overlooked - is everything that accompanies the radio access network. Alcatel-Lucent has underlined that the concept of 'end-to-end' solutions
is more than just rhetoric.”

WiMAX Rev-e is now entering a phase of commercial maturity, with Alcatel-Lucent’s customers worldwide deploying stable, industrialized Wave 2-ready infrastructure that has been carrying commercial traffic in the Dominican Republic for more than six months already. Bolivia’s Nuevatel also has recently launched commercial Rev-e services over its Alcatel-Lucent-built network, and the company is also supporting the upcoming commercial service rollout of Worldmax in the Netherlands.

“We’re deeply satisfied to see WiMAX Rev-e generating real revenue and becoming, ultimately, just business-as-usual for our customers,” Mr. El Naggar added.

Alcatel-Lucent at WiMAX Forum Global Congress
Alcatel-Lucent, Worldmax and Intel will together be showcasing live WiMAX Rev-e services at the show, leveraging Worldmax’s newly built metropolitan network. Visitors will experience live multimedia services over the Worldmax network while cruising on Amsterdam’s famous canals on a “floating Internet Cafe”. The broad coverage and performance of Amsterdam’s first WiMAX network will also be showcased by a fleet of tricycle taxis equipped with WiMAX-connected video cameras distributed across the city.

In addition to the tricycle taxis and canal boat, visitors will also be able to experience wireless broadband via a “bed on wheels,” which will rove the city while remaining connected, courtesy of Worldmax. Videoconferencing over WiMAX will connect all these vehicles with the Alcatel-Lucent booth. In its exhibition stand in the RAI (#3.61) Alcatel-Lucent also will showcase its new End-to-End WiMAX solution, the range of WiMAX devices provided by its Open Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) program and its recently updated base-station portfolio.

On Tuesday, June 17, Alcatel-Lucent, Worldmax, and Intel, a major partner in the deployment in the Netherlands, will jointly brief the media on Tuesday, 17 June on Worldmax’s launch plans and global WiMAX trends. Mr. El Naggar will later in the day deliver keynote speech titled “Bringing Broadband Access to the World,” at the show’s conference.
