New expo showcases the power of analytics and artificial intelligence to transform travel

Hamburg, 12 April 2018: This year at Passenger Experience Week, a brand new event was launched to ‘zoom out’ from specific aspects of the passenger experience and explore how technology can be used to create a seamless and personalised overall passenger journey.



The inaugural Passenger Technology Solutions (PTS) event took place in Hamburg this week from 10th- 12th April, and featured some of the most cutting edge innovators in big data, machine learning and predictive analytics.



A significant announcement came from analytics company Black Swan Data, who unveiled a alliance with gategroup to allow as-you-board pre-ordering of meals based on predictions of what particular types of passenger on certain routes are likely to want. Boasting a reduction in wastage of up to 50%, as well as up to 15% cost savings, the collaboration shows how data analytics can be used to transform the passenger experience.



Meanwhile, the CCO of Hamad International Airport, Badr Al Meer, chose his session at the PTS Seminar Theatre to reveal that the second stage of an ambitious digital transformation project at the airport has been completed. Using facial recognition and other biometric technologies, the new system allows passengers to pass through the airport without once showing their boarding pass or passport.



Alongside these announcements, other PTS exhibitors took advantage of the event to showcase highly innovative new products including chatbots, ecommerce platforms, cabin management tools and passenger engagement technologies.

Global connectivity provider Mondicon showcased its We.Stream portable WiFi hotspot, which provides a personal internet connection to companies and individual travellers across over 100 countries around the world
IT solutions company Innova announced that its Cabin-4 solution for cabin crew had saved Turkish airlines 1.5 tonnes of paper every month since it came into operation three years ago
FoxTripper delighted visitors with their interactive moving map, which provides airlines with data based on passengers accessing information about cities they are flying over and browsing and booking activities for when they reach their destination
Onboard retail and payment experts Guestlogix released updates to their data-driven airline commerce and analytics platform, built to help carriers increase onboard sales, drive day-of-travel ancillary revenues and deliver a better passenger experience through personalised and relevant offerings
Representatives from Boeing, Airbus, Norwegian and Turkish Airlines participated in the PTS Seminar Programme, which ran throughout the three days of the show.

The programme also included an interview with Guinness World Record holder for The World’s Most Travelled Man, Fred Finn, who fascinated listeners with his stories based on journeys covering over fifteen million miles.
