Since 2001, UniCredit Group’s commitment to cancer research carried out by the Italian Association for Research on Cancer (AIRC) has been strengthened by a fund that has provided 60 three-year training grants. This funding supports young researchers from all over the world and allows them to work in highlyquality research centers.

In 2004, UniCredit Group renewed its support of AIRC by funding a five-year project that established oncogenomic platforms at the University of Naples Federico II and the Institute for Research and Treatment of Cancer in Candiolo, Turin.

UniCredit Group believes that successful research, particularly when aimed at fighting disease, benefits from young and committed talent capable of contributing new ideas and innovation. Thus, the company has agreed to support the program "My First AIRC Grant,” designed to fund the best young researchers in Italy and provide them with the opportunity to work on innovative and independently researched projects. From 2009 to 2011, the Group is funding a team of 11 young researchers throughout the country.

This year, UniCredit Group and AIRC also participated in a joint initiative with the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI) to fund cancer research by distributing notebooks at AMACI member museums on the 2009 Day of Contemporary Art. This unique fundraising effort deftly combined UniCredit Group’s diverse commitments to young talent in the fields of art, culture and scientific research.

UniCredit Group is pleased to announce its support of the AIRC charity auction “I Cannot Wait to Beat Cancer.” The initiative seeks to contribute to the "Brain Gain" project that promotes promising young scientists.

UniCredit Group will hold a press conference to provide media and collectors with further information about the auction, which will take place November 26 at 5:00 pm in Montanelli Hall (Corriere della Sera), via Solferino, 26/A, Milan.
